La Chartreuse – Centre national des écritures du spectacle
Presentation
Come and admire its masterpieces, the mausoleum of Pope Innocent VI and the frescoes by painter Matteo Giovannetti, and take time out to relax in its gardens for a refreshing break.
Founded in the 14th century by Pope Innocent VI, it became one of Europe’s most prosperous until the mid-18th century. When the monks left during the French Revolution, it was sold and inhabited by the villagers, before being restored in the early 20th century and becoming a Cultural Center in 1973.
Today, this remarkable heritage site is animated by a cultural project centered on performing arts, and welcomes numerous artists in residence. Throughout the season, La Chartreuse offers a rich and varied cultural program (shows, readings, artistic encounters, temporary exhibitions, conferences, etc.).
