What to do when it rains in Provence Occitane?

It’s raining! The programme we had meticulously planned with the children falls through. But don’t worry, in Provence Occitane, there are plenty of activities to do even in the rain. In fact, this fickleweather is the perfect opportunity to leave room for the unexpected and explore unique experiences. Here are a few ideas for making the most of your stay in the Gard, whatever the weather!

A fascinating adventure in the caves

The caves of Provence Occitane are numerous and bear witness to the history of our ancestors in the Gard. They’re the perfect place to get out of the rain and enjoy a captivating adventure for all the family. Each cave has its own character: some are adorned with impressive concretions, others feature fascinating cave paintings or intriguing fossils.

For us, the discovery began in a brightly lit cave , which amazed Lucas, my youngest son. Matthias, meanwhile, was totally captivated by the cave paintings in the next cave. There’s sure to be a Gardcave that will charm every member of the family. What’s more, Cookie, our dog, can join us for some of the visits!

An unforgettable caving trip in Provence Occitane

The Tourist Office advisor also suggested a caving trip supervised by local instructors. It was a big first for us! Even Lucas, only 4 years old, could take part. My wife, Amandine, was a bit worried about going down into underground caves, but the instructors are very experienced and adapt to each group. They suggested a trip to a cave between Goudargues and Méjannes-le-Clap. It was the perfect opportunity to experience an extraordinary adventure, far from the noise and lights of the outside world.

Solving mysteries as a family

There’s nothing like an escape game to have a good time with the family while discovering the local heritage of the Gard. In Provence Occitane, you can immerse yourself in captivating puzzles that will have you exploring historic sites. At theEspace Rabelais, for example, we learned all about the art of winemaking, while at the Maison Sinnaé cellar, we tried to find the right bottle. Even the Moulin de Vénéjan had a few surprises in store for us with “L’affaire du pain maudit” !

These escape games are not just games, but also opportunities to learn while having fun. Each activity is an invitation to discover our beautiful region in a fun and engaging way.

Albert André Museum and Maison des Chevaliers

Rainy days in Provence Occitane are perfect for exploring covered areas. In particular, the Musée Albert André is an excellent choice for discovering works of art by great artists such as Matisse, Marquet and Renoir. They even have a visit booklet for children. And the Maison des Chevaliers will immerse you in sacred art in all its forms, from many countries around the world. These cultural spaces in the Gard offer not only shelter from the rain, but also an opportunity to learn and marvel.

Wine tastings and visits to local producers

Don’t let the rain discourage you from sampling the delights of the Gard! Make the most of your time indoors to take part in wine tastings with local producers. This is your chance to discover the unique flavours of Provence Occitane, while learning more about the wine-making process. These moments of sharing are often punctuated by fascinating stories about the terroir and wine-making traditions.

First one up!

For thrill-seekers, the Moov Club climbing gym is a great option. It’s a place where the whole family can exercise and have fun, whatever the weather outside. Children love to climb and try their hand at climbing challenges, while being supervised by professionals. The icing on the cake: you can have lunch on site at the Spok restaurant.

A trip to the cinema in Provence Occitane

If it rains during your stay in Provence Occitane, why not take in a film? There are often films for all the family. Make yourself comfortable and let yourself be carried away by the story!

In conclusion, the next time the rain invites itself during your stay in the Gard, don’t forget that there are plenty of ways to have a good time.
