‘Who was Albert André?’, a guided tour of Albert André’s work

Presentation

Let’s celebrate Albert André through a selection of Impressionist works from the Bagnols-sur-Cèze Museum, with a focus on his connection to Auguste Renoir, in conjunction with the exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay.

Spotted by Auguste Renoir, with whom he became close friends, and exhibited in France and New York by gallery owner Charles Durand-Ruel, Albert André richly deserves to be recognized by the general public. Let’s explore how he became curator of the Bagnols-sur-Cèze Museum in 1917, his friendships with the painters whose works adorn the museum (Matisse, Marquet, Valtat, d’Espagnat, Puy, Van Dongen…), and how he thus founded one of France’s first museums of modern art.
The focus will also be on Pierre-Auguste Renoir, in light of the exhibition taking place at the Musée d’Orsay from March 17 to July 19, “Renoir and Love: The Joy of Modernity (1865–1885),” and the close ties that developed between Albert André and the great master.

Meet at Place Mallet, on the 2nd floor of the Bagnols-sur-Cèze City Hall.

Tours are available in French, and upon request in English or German.
