She writes lyrical prose, paints and sculpts using recycled materials. A committed feminist, she has created a series of cycles on historical, symbolic and mythological subjects, exploring the identity of women.
Born in Breslau (Poland) under Nazi occupation, Lena Vandrey (1941-2018) was marked by the horrors of war. She went into exile in Paris in 1959, then retired in 1967 to a country house in the Gard region, where she lived for over twenty years. From the early 1970s onwards, she took part in the French feminist movement. In 2002, she acquired a mansion in Bourg-Saint-Andéol, which she transformed into the Musée des Anges-Lena Vandrey. Self-taught, she writes lyrical prose, paints and sculpts using recycled materials she gleans. A committed feminist, throughout her life she created a series of cycles on historical, symbolic and mythological subjects, in which she explored women’s identity.
