Hip-Hop Dance Show: Upshot

Upshot confronts the individual and the group, the degrees of inclusion and exclusion, and leads to an exploration of symbolism and self-representation. With energy, each singularity is revealed. A powerful, urban dance for a real visual shock.

Through intense, highly embodied physical dance, the dancers of Cie Relevant question the individual’s position in relation to the group. They explore notions of exclusion, inclusion and marginalization within a society. Their bodies become a medium for introducing themselves to others, talking about themselves and engaging in dialogue. The result is a ritualistic choreography that flirts with trance. Each dancer in turn interprets different social roles, depending on the codes they possess and those they need to acquire to join the group. Movements and the body become a way of introducing oneself to others, talking about oneself, opening up a dialogue.
