Façade exterieure de la Scène Chapelle des Pénitents
Pont-Saint-Esprit

Théâtre de La Scène Chapelle des Pénitents

Presentation

In the heart of Pont-Saint-Esprit, the Scène Chapelle des Pénitents (17th-century chapel) offers shows and concerts.

It was home to the Pénitents, a grouping of the former white, blue and black Pénitents brotherhoods, who assisted families in times of mourning. During the French Revolution, the chapel served as a meeting place for a revolutionary club, before being returned to the Pénitents. Already an auditorium in the 50s, then virtually abandoned, it became a theater again in 2012 under the patronage of Pierre Arditi.

■ Listed on the Inventaire supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques in 1939 (facade) and 2005 (entire building).
