A cycling tour of the Cèze Valley

A 14km touring cycle circuit starting from Goudargues in the Vallée de la Cèze, available in different versions.

Cèze Valley Loop (starting from Goudargues)
There are several options available to you, with three destinations starting from Goudargues that can be combined or taken separately. All routes are easy, family-friendly and mainly on shared RD roads.
Half-day and full-day departures are available.
Departures possible from Verfeuil (free parking) and La-Roque-sur-Cèze (paid parking).
No. 1 Goudargues > Pont du Courau: Distance: 14 km round trip, 1 hour. Average gradient 3% (60 m+).
 No. 2 Goudargues > Verfeuil: Distance: 16km round trip, 1 hour 30 minutes. Average gradient 4% (60m+ -).
 No. 3 Goudargues > La-Roque-sur-Cèze: Distance: 24km round trip, 2 hours 30 minutes. Average gradient 4% (100m+ -).
 Verfeuil > La-Roque-sur-Cèze link: Distance: 10km, 30 mins. Average gradient 4% (100m+ -).

Free parking is available in the village of Goudargues behind the supermarket near the village centre. In the village, you can enjoy the presence of water, as a stream runs through the old centre, and you can stroll under the plane trees along the small canals of the ‘Venice of the Gard’ and along the ‘Chemin des Jardins’ (Garden Path). “. You can also enjoy the town’s heritage, including its 12th-century church and chapter house, as well as its many shops, where you can share convivial moments in this tourist village in the Cèze Valley.
The Tourist Information Office, located at the northern entrance to the village, welcomes you and provides you with all the information you need about the village and the region.

Please note: proximity to swimming spots, canoeing on the Cèze, horse riding (Toupian), hiking trails, proximity to the Chartreuse de Valbonne cycle touring loop, numerous accommodation options and campsites throughout the Cèze Valley circuits in all municipalities.

The circuits start in the centre of Goudargues at the crossroads by the tobacconist’s/newsagent’s, right next to the canal.

No. 1 Goudargues > Pont du Courau (municipality of St-André-de-Roquepertuis.
Head towards Frigoulet on the RD371, which you will follow until you reach Pont du Courau. You will leave Goudargues behind, passing a housing estate and campsite on either side, before arriving in the heart of the countryside. You will travel for several kilometres through the countryside, passing through the small hamlets of Ussel and Frigoulet. At the end of this small departmental road, you will join the RD167 and follow it for a few metres before reaching the Pont du Courau and the banks of the Cèze. Once you arrive, there are several activities and services available, including swimming, canoeing/stand-up paddleboarding, hiking, a guinguette (open-air café) and a brasserie.
The return journey to Goudargues follows the same route as the outward journey, via the small RD 371 road from Frigoulet.

Nearby: the village centre of St-André-de-Roquepertuis overlooking the hamlet of Courau, where you can discover its rich heritage and environment, and Montclus (listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France), accessible via hiking trails (15km round trip).

No. 2 Goudargues > Verfeuil.
Head towards Verfeuil/La Bastide on the RD23 and leave Goudargues. After a few kilometres, you will arrive in the woods at the hamlet of La Bastide, where we recommend stopping to admire the old castle and the wash house on the left-hand side of the road. Then continue towards Verfeuil, still on the RD23. After several kilometres, you will come to a crossroads at a place called Claperet, where you will need to turn right onto the RD143 towards Lussan/Verfeuil. In summer, you can admire the lavender fields that enhance the landscape. After several kilometres, you will see the small hamlet of Goussargues on your right, where you can discover its charming little chapel after crossing the small bridge over the Aiguillon stream as you head up into the village.
Then continue on your way towards Verfeuil, returning to the RD143. After a few kilometres, you will arrive at the village on a slight incline, where you can admire the beauty of the lavender fields in summer. Continue straight on to the centre. When you arrive, take the time to explore the heritage sites clustered around the 12th-century castle and its keep topped with a bell tower, the 19th-century church (formerly Valsauve Abbey) and the capitelle.
The return journey follows the same route as the outward journey, via the small RD143, then the RD23 towards Goudargues. You can reach the village of La Roque-sur-Cèze from the junction of the RD143 and RD23 at a place called Claperet.

Nearby: the Concluses de Lussan site, accessible from Verfeuil via a hiking trail, L’Aiguillon (3 hours round trip). Les Concluses are gorges carved out by the Aiguillon and Merderis rivers, dominated by high cliffs. Stretching over 6 km, they feature ‘giant’s kettles’, caves, a gateway, an arch, a viewpoint… and are only accessible on foot.
