vénéjan, petite cité de caractère
Vénéjan

Vénéjan, a ‘small town of character’

Presentation

Overlooking the plain, this small medieval village, classified as a ‘petite cité de caractère’ (small town of character), invites you to stroll through its cobbled streets to the top of the village to discover the windmill and Romanesque chapel.

From the top of Vénéjan you will be able to see the wings of the mill opening out. Built in the early 19th century, the mill fed the inhabitants for over a century. Fully restored and in perfect working order, it is still watching over the village with all the events happening around the mill. When going back down towards the village, you will discover the vestiges of a village dating back to the Middle Ages, and of which many old houses will make your walks all the more delightful. One of them has a “fish bone” frieze, more decorative than useful, and which you can find in some sections of old medieval ramparts. From that time, the village kept its gem: the Roman chapel with its painted decorations. From the forecourt, a beautiful viewpoint on the Rhône Valley will stretch out before you.
