La Roque sur Cèze, village classé “Plus Beaux Villages de France”
Presentation
As you walk around there, remember this local saying: «Quau vai a La Ròca, se i cròca», in other words: «He who goes to La Roque gets hooked on it».
Founded in the Middle Ages on a rocky outcrop to ensure its security, the village of La-Roque-sur-Cèze has developed harmoniously over the centuries. Classified as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France” since 2007, its narrow, paved streets had already earned it a listing in the inventory of French sites in 1958. Its 11th-century castle, its chapel, and its Romanesque Charles-Martel bridge are all patrimonial assets that lend this small village its most beautiful charms. Recognized for its exceptional heritage and landscape identity, the site is now very popular with visitors who come each year to explore its surroundings, offering new vistas at every turn. As you walk around there, remember this local saying: «Quau vai a La Ròca, se i cròca», in other words: «He who goes to La Roque gets hooked on it». So beware of falling in love ! And don’t forget the magnificent jewel of the Cascades du Sautadet, located below the village, a must-see.
