Fortified Church of Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres

Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres stands out for the presence of an admirable and unusual fortified church.

The base of this monument is a romanesque church, built between the 11th and the 12th century.
The original munument was then completely transformed at the beggining of the 14th century by the addition of fortifications that doubled his height..
This was impulsed by the bishop of Avignon, Jacques Deuze (1310 – 1312), who became pope Jean XXII (1316 – 1332).
