Ermitage et grotte de la Sainte Baume

Presentation

More than a place of meditation, it offers a peaceful break, where you will find comfort and coolness, even in the middle of our hot summers!

Hidden within our Provence Occitane, the “Ermitage de la Sainte Baume” is a real source of interest and is worth the detour! At the end of a pleasant walk in a natural woodland, you will find the hermitage proudly standing, 2km away from Lirac, land of rosé. In this ancient Neolithic cave were built a chapel and a statue of the Virgin Mary in the 17th century, and it became a pilgrimage site. For a long time, the cave was accessible with a trail. The current route was only built in the 19th century. By the way, until then, the only way to reach the cave was through the hermitage. Inside, an access corridor, dug around 1880, created access to the cave. More than a place of meditation, it offers a peaceful break, where you will find comfort and coolness, even in the middle of our hot summers!

Throughout the year, the Les Amis de la Sainte Baume association offers activities, open days and tours, concerts, and more. If you would like a guided tour or to visit the hermitage, please contact them on +33 (0)6 62 44 40 88.
